Private equity is accelerating the growth of DSOs (Dental Service Organizations), which consolidate standalone dental practices into scalable, efficient, and investment-ready operations. A leading PE fund launched Visio360.ai, a cloud-based application to integrate operations across key systems – electronic medical records, HRIS, accounting, and more (typically, 3d party SaaS subscriptions). The critical success factor: a dynamic, flexible backbone of BI and analytics.
The application and data architecture was built using Claritype. A low-code data modeling environment with advanced knowledge graph capabilities and a unified semantic layer, Claritype lets DSOs easily apply AI to query complex operational data, simply by using plain language or visual dashboards. The result: a robust operational knowledge graph and data warehouse spanning business-critical DSO functions – patients, appointments, staff productivity, revenue cycle management and more.
The Challenge
The original Visio360 application, in combination with Claritype's domain-specific knowledge modeling, provided valuable analytics capabilities for early DSO customers. However, these initial deployments were highly tailored and resource-intensive, lacking the foundational platform capabilities required to scale efficiently:
- No tenant-aware infrastructure to isolate customer data securely.
- Manual onboarding of new customer data and business process integration points.
- Limited automation in deployment, testing, and monitoring processes.
- No built-in mechanisms for high availability, rollback, or resilience at scale.
The platform needed to reach enterprise standards for scalable, resilient SaaS to move beyond proof-of-concept and enable a scalable DSO analytics product. Visio360.ai and Claritype chose expert systems integrator CloudGeometry to achieve that next level.
The Solution
As an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner recognized for its SaaS Competency and certified skills as a DataBricks Systems Integrator. CloudGeometry designed a platform and data upgrade focused on four key capabilities: multi-tenancy, repeatable integration, cloud-native operations, and enterprise-grade resilience.
Multi-Tenancy Architecture: To serve multiple independent DSO organizations with full data isolation and flexible resource allocation, CloudGeometry implemented a growth-ready multi-tenancy model. Key technical features:
- Identity and Access Management (IAM): Fine-grained, role-based access control using AWS IAM and Cognito, ensuring strict tenant data boundaries.
- Tenant-Aware Resource Allocation: Logical separation via namespacing and workspace isolation within Databricks and Kubernetes-managed services.
- Configuration-as-Code: Automated provisioning of tenant-specific data pipelines, dashboards, and storage policies using templated infrastructure definitions.
Production-Grade AI-Ready Data Integration: CloudGeometry transformed the data integration layer into a repeatable and automated ingestion process, critical for onboarding newly acquired practices across multiple DSOs. This required establishing standard ingestion paths and validation protocols, to rapidly onboard new customers with minimal manual overhead:
- Built ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue, Lambda, and Step Functions.
- Implemented schema versioning and mapping consistency across a broad range of third-party business process management systems.
- Operational observability and compliance through lineage tracking and reconciliation audits.
- Automated provisioning and modeling to add new applications and data to Claritype’s integrated knowledge graph and low-code analytics engine
Scalable, Cloud-Native Infrastructure: In order to scale horizontally with customer growth while maintaining predictable performance and costs, re-engineered to use modern AWS infrastructure for high availability and elastic scalability. Key Features:
- Compute: Deployed containerized services on Amazon EKS for stateless workloads, with Databricks handling end-to-end batch and stream processing workloads.
- Storage: Used Amazon S3 and RDS for reliable, cost-effective data storage with encryption and backup policies.
- Security and Compliance: data protection via encryption, VPC isolation, and audit logging to meet HIPAA-aligned security standards.
- DevOps, CI/CD, and observability systems to ensure application quality, speed of delivery, and service health by running release pipelines, monitoring, and alerting using the open source CGDevEx Kubernetes Application Delivery platform.
- Release Management: Introduced versioning, rollback mechanisms, and blue/green deployments for safer production changes.
The Benefits
The Visio360 and Claritype teams laid the groundwork with a compelling analytics model. CloudGeometry operationalized the platform for scale. Through proven approaches to secure data multi-tenancy, cloud automation, and SaaS infrastructure design, CloudGeometry delivered the enterprise readiness needed to support a growing portfolio of DSO customers.
